Which two-family name is associated with the German appliance maker Miele?

The story behind the answer

The Miele and Zinkann families are associated with the German appliance maker Miele. Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann founded the company in Herzebrock, Germany, in 1899.

Miele first manufactured cream separators and butter churns before expanding into washing machines, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers and cooking appliances. The company remains privately held and is still managed by descendants of both founding families.

Miele is known for premium household appliances and for emphasizing long product lifecycles. Its headquarters are in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, where the company has developed much of its manufacturing and research operations.

The answer requires both family names: Miele is not solely a Miele-family company. That distinguishes it from businesses such as Bosch, which has a different founding and ownership history.
