Which two countries share Eurovision’s record for most victories, with seven wins each?

The story behind the answer

Ireland and Sweden share Eurovision’s record for most victories, with seven wins each.

Ireland built its record through victories in 1970, 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996. Its three consecutive wins from 1992 to 1994 remain a unique achievement in the contest’s history.

Sweden reached seven victories when Loreen won the 2023 contest with “Tattoo.” Before that, Sweden’s winning entries included ABBA’s “Waterloo” in 1974 and Loreen’s “Euphoria” in 2012. Sweden’s 2023 victory also made Loreen the second performer to win Eurovision twice.

A common mix-up is to name only Ireland, because it held the outright record for many years. Sweden’s seventh win brought the countries level. The United Kingdom and France are among the contest’s historically successful countries, but neither has seven victories.
