Which Turkish exchange operates the BIST 100 index?

The story behind the answer

Borsa Istanbul operates the BIST 100 index.

Borsa Istanbul is Turkey’s principal exchange and provides organized markets for equities, debt instruments, derivatives, and precious metals. The BIST 100 is its flagship share index and tracks 100 companies selected from the exchange’s equity market.

The institution adopted the Borsa Istanbul name in 2013 after the consolidation of Turkey’s major capital-market venues. Its creation brought the Istanbul Stock Exchange, the Istanbul Gold Exchange, and the Turkish Derivatives Exchange under one exchange structure.

The BIST 100 name combines BIST, the exchange’s abbreviation, with the number of constituents. It is therefore different from the former Istanbul Stock Exchange name, which referred to the predecessor institution rather than the current exchange.
