Which Colombian exchange was formed in 2001 by merging the exchanges of Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali?

The story behind the answer

The Colombia Stock Exchange was formed in 2001 by merging the exchanges of Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali.

Before the merger, Colombia’s securities trading was divided among regional exchanges. Combining them created a single national marketplace and helped consolidate listing, trading, and market information services.

The resulting exchange is known in Spanish as the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia and is commonly abbreviated BVC. It is headquartered in Bogotá and supports trading in Colombian equities, fixed-income instruments, and other securities.

The BVC should not be confused with the Pacific Alliance’s regional initiatives, which link markets across several Latin American countries but are not the same as the Colombian national exchange.
