Which Tolkien novel was published posthumously in 2007, edited by Christopher Tolkien?

The story behind the answer

The Children of Húrin was published posthumously in 2007, edited by Christopher Tolkien.

The book presents a relatively complete version of the tragic story of Túrin Turambar and his sister Niënor during the First Age of Tolkien’s mythology. J.R.R. Tolkien worked on versions of this tale throughout his life, including prose narratives and verse passages, but he did not publish a finished standalone novel during his lifetime.

Christopher Tolkien assembled the 2007 edition from his father’s writings and supplied editorial material. The publication was designed as a continuous narrative rather than as a collection of disconnected drafts, while still reflecting the history of the surviving texts.

The story is part of the larger mythology later associated with The Silmarillion. It is not the same work as The Fall of Númenor, which was published in 2022, or The Nature of Middle-earth, published in 2021. Those later books draw on different bodies of Tolkien’s notes and writings.
