Which Tolkien language was inspired partly by Finnish?

The story behind the answer

Quenya was the Tolkien language inspired partly by Finnish. Tolkien developed Quenya as an Elvish language, and its sound and grammar reflect his strong interest in Finnish, as well as influences from Latin and Greek.

Within Tolkien’s mythology, Quenya was associated especially with the High Elves, including the Ñoldor and Vanyar. It was an ancient and prestigious language rather than the everyday speech of all Elves in every period. The language’s name is related to the idea of speech or language in Tolkien’s linguistic system.

Sindarin is another major Elvish language, but Tolkien designed it with stronger inspiration from Welsh. Khuzdul is the secret language of the Dwarves, while the Black Speech was created for the servants of Mordor. These languages should not be treated as interchangeable names for Elvish speech.

Tolkien’s invented languages often came first or developed alongside the stories. He created histories, sound changes, and relationships between languages, making language construction a central part of his world-building.
