Which Tolkien character was the father of the dragon-slayer Túrin Turambar?
Answer
Húrin Thalion
Answer
Húrin Thalion
Húrin Thalion was the father of the dragon-slayer Túrin Turambar. Húrin is a central human figure in Tolkien’s First Age mythology and the head of the House of Hador.
During the Nírnaeth Arnoediad, or Battle of Unnumbered Tears, Húrin was captured by Morgoth after resisting him. Morgoth cursed Húrin’s family and forced him to watch the consequences of the curse from a seat on Thangorodrim. Túrin’s life thereafter includes exile, mistaken identity, tragedy, and his eventual killing of the dragon Glaurung.
Húrin’s story is told most fully in The Children of Húrin, edited by Christopher Tolkien and published in 2007. He should not be confused with Túrin, who sometimes uses the name Turambar. “Turambar” means Master of Doom in Tolkien’s invented language Quenya.
