Which Tolkien character is the father of Elrond?

The story behind the answer

Eärendil is the father of Elrond in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology.

Eärendil was the son of the human Tuor and the Elf Idril, making him part of both the Elven and human lines. He married Elwing, and their sons were Elrond and Elros. After the end of the First Age, the two brothers were given a choice between the destinies of Elves and Men: Elrond chose to be counted among the Elves, while Elros became the first king of Númenor.

Eärendil is also famous for sailing to Valinor with the Silmaril carried by Elwing. He pleaded for aid against Morgoth, and the Valar responded. Tolkien connected this mythic mariner with the evening star, which shines as a sign of hope in later stories.
