Which Tolkien character is known as the father of the Ents?

The story behind the answer

Treebeard is known as the father of the Ents in Tolkien’s fiction.

Treebeard, whose Entish name is Fangorn, is one of the oldest beings in Middle-earth. He appears in The Two Towers as the leader and guardian of the Ents, the tree-like shepherds of forests. Merry and Pippin meet him in Fangorn Forest after escaping from the Orcs who captured them.

The Ents were created to protect trees, but Treebeard explains that the Entwives disappeared long ago. The Ents’ decision to attack Isengard follows the destruction of forests by Saruman, whose industrial war machine threatens their world.

Treebeard is not a wizard or a human king. Tom Bombadil is another ancient and mysterious figure, while Radagast is a wizard and Beorn is a shape-shifter. Treebeard’s title reflects his age, authority, and role as the most prominent Ent in the narrative.
