Túrin is the Tolkien character also called Túrin Turambar.
Túrin Turambar is the central figure of The Children of Húrin, one of Tolkien’s major tragic stories from the First Age. The name “Turambar” means “Master of Doom” in Tolkien’s invented Elvish terminology. Túrin adopts it during part of his troubled life, when he is attempting to escape the curse placed on his family by the dragon Glaurung.
His story is connected to the wider history of Beleriand and the wars against Morgoth. It includes the destruction of Nargothrond, the dragon’s influence, and a tragic series of mistaken identities and consequences. Tolkien drew on the structure and atmosphere of Northern European tragic legend while creating his own characters and languages.
The name is sometimes confused with the title of the later published novel. Túrin is the person; Túrin Turambar is one of his adopted names or epithets.
