Which Tolkien character is also called Eärendil the Mariner?

The story behind the answer

Eärendil the Mariner is the Tolkien character named Eärendil.

In Tolkien’s mythology, Eärendil is a Half-elven hero who sails to the Undying Lands carrying a Silmaril. His voyage allows him to seek aid from the Valar against Morgoth, the great enemy of the First Age. Afterward, Eärendil becomes the star known as the Evening Star or Morning Star, depending on its appearance in the sky.

Eärendil is the father of Elrond and Elros, making him an important ancestor in the histories of both Elves and Men. Tolkien drew on the Old English name Éarendel, especially from a line in the poem Crist, but transformed the figure into part of his own legendarium. Eärendil should not be confused with Elrond, his son, or with Beren, another major hero of the First Age.
