Which three countries will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

The story behind the answer

Canada, Mexico and the United States will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The three-country bid was selected by the FIFA Congress in June 2018. It will be the first World Cup hosted by three nations and the first edition staged in Canada, although Mexico will become the first country to host the tournament three times.

The 2026 competition is scheduled to use 48 teams, an expansion from the 32-team format used from 1998 through 2022. Matches will be played in venues across North America.

The tournament is commonly called United 2026. Mexico previously hosted the 1970 and 1986 editions, while the United States hosted the 1994 World Cup and Canada hosted the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
