Williams played Molly Kochan in the FX limited series Dying for Sex. The show is based on Kochan’s real-life story and follows a woman who leaves her marriage after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, seeking new experiences and reconnecting with her friend Nikki.
The performance won in the limited-television female acting category at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. That category is separate from the television drama and musical-or-comedy series categories, which recognize actors in ongoing series.
Michelle Williams’s win was also distinct from the television supporting awards. Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty won supporting prizes for Adolescence, while Rhea Seehorn won the drama-series female acting award for Pluribus.
