The UK version of Dragon's Den has broadcast on BBC Two since its 2005 debut.
The programme is a British adaptation of the Japanese business reality format Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs enter the studio to present businesses, products or services to a panel of wealthy investors, known as Dragons, and seek funding in exchange for an ownership stake.
BBC Two is the BBC channel traditionally associated with factual, documentary and specialist programming, making it the original home of Dragon's Den. The programme is produced for the BBC by BBC Studios and has also generated international versions using the same broad investment-pitch structure.
A common mix-up is to confuse the UK programme with Shark Tank, the American adaptation of the broader Dragons' Den format. In the UK, the title uses “Dragons” because the investors are presented as powerful business figures rather than “sharks.”
