Which team won the FIFA World Cup after trailing 2–0 at half-time in the 1954 final?

The story behind the answer

West Germany won the 1954 FIFA World Cup final after trailing Hungary 2–0 at half-time.

Hungary scored twice in the opening eight minutes through Ferenc Puskás and Zoltán Czibor. West Germany responded through Max Morlock and Helmut Rahn, leveling the match before the interval. Rahn scored again in the 84th minute to complete a 3–2 comeback.

The final was played on 4 July 1954 at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, Switzerland. It became known as the “Miracle of Bern,” especially because Hungary had been unbeaten for four years and had already beaten West Germany 8–3 in the group stage.

The result gave West Germany its first World Cup title. Hungary’s defeat remains one of the most famous upsets in the competition’s history.
