Which team won the 2024 Stanley Cup?

The story behind the answer

The Florida Panthers won the 2024 Stanley Cup. They defeated the Edmonton Oilers in a seven-game Final, winning Game 7 by a 2–1 score on June 24, 2024, in Sunrise, Florida.

Florida appeared to have the series under control after taking a 3–0 lead, but Edmonton won Games 4, 5, and 6 to force the first Stanley Cup Final Game 7 since 2011. The Panthers finally ended the comeback when Carter Verhaeghe scored early and Sam Reinhart added the eventual winning goal.

The championship was the first in Panthers franchise history. Florida had reached the Final once before, in 1996, when the Colorado Avalanche swept the series. The Panthers’ 2024 victory therefore ended a long wait and made them the ninth team to win the Cup after losing in the previous season’s Final.

A common mix-up is confusing the 2024 champion with the 2023 winner, the Vegas Golden Knights, or the 2025 champion, which was also Florida. The Panthers became back-to-back champions by winning again in 2025.
