Which goaltender won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012 with the Los Angeles Kings?

The story behind the answer

Which goaltender won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012 with the Los Angeles Kings? Jonathan Quick won it.

Quick was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs after leading Los Angeles to its first Stanley Cup championship. The Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils four games to two in the Final, ending a 45-year wait for the franchise’s first title.

His playoff numbers explain the selection: Quick went 16–4, posted a 1.41 goals-against average, recorded a .946 save percentage and registered three shutouts. He was especially important during Los Angeles’ historic run as the first eighth-seeded team to win the Stanley Cup.

A common mix-up is Tim Thomas, who won the Conn Smythe in 2011 with Boston. Martin Brodeur was the opposing goaltender for New Jersey in the 2012 Final, not the award winner. Quick later won two more Stanley Cups, with the Kings in 2014 and the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.
