Which team raced the six-wheeled P34 Formula 1 car?

The story behind the answer

The Tyrrell team raced the six-wheeled P34 Formula 1 car.

Designed by Derek Gardner, the Tyrrell P34 used four small front wheels and two conventional rear wheels. The front tyres were only 10 inches in diameter, allowing them to fit behind the front wing and potentially reduce aerodynamic drag. Because tiny tyres had limited contact patches, four front wheels were used to recover grip and braking area.

The P34 was unveiled in 1975 and began racing during the 1976 season. Its greatest success came at the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix, where Jody Scheckter won and Patrick Depailler finished second. That remains the only Formula 1 victory achieved by a six-wheeled car.

The P34 competed in 1976 and 1977, but its heavier and revised 1977 version was less competitive. March, Williams and Ferrari also built six-wheeled experimental cars, yet their designs were not raced in a World Championship Grand Prix. That distinction is why Tyrrell is the canonical answer.
