How many points does a Formula 1 Grand Prix winner receive under the standard system introduced in 2010?

The story behind the answer

Under the standard Formula 1 points system introduced in 2010, a Grand Prix winner receives 25 points.

The 2010 revision expanded points-scoring to the top 10 finishers, replacing the older 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 pattern used through 2009. The new distribution was 25 points for first, 18 for second, 15 for third, followed by 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1.

The system was designed partly to reflect the arrival of new teams and the larger championship field. It also made victories more valuable relative to second-place finishes, although a driver could still win a title through consistent podium results rather than the most race wins.

The figure is sometimes confused with earlier systems: winners received 10 points from 1991 through 2002 and 10 points again under the 2003–2009 structure. The 25-point winner’s score remains the familiar baseline, although sprint races and special rules for shortened Grands Prix can add or reduce a season’s total.
