The city that hosts the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix is Baku.
The race is held on the Baku City Circuit, a temporary street circuit laid out around central Baku and the Caspian Sea waterfront. Its long main straight and tight old-city section make it one of Formula 1’s most distinctive venues.
Formula 1 first raced in Azerbaijan in 2016, when the circuit hosted the European Grand Prix. The following year, in 2017, it became the home of the newly named Azerbaijan Grand Prix. That history can cause a common mix-up: the 2016 event was in Baku too, but it was officially the European Grand Prix rather than the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Baku is Azerbaijan’s capital and largest city. The circuit is famous for unusually high speeds on a street track, dramatic safety-car periods and races that have produced unexpected winners, including Daniel Ricciardo in the inaugural Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
