Which team entered the overall-winning McLaren F1 GTR in 1995?

The story behind the answer

Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing entered the overall-winning McLaren F1 GTR at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The winning car was chassis 01R, a development McLaren F1 GTR that had been used as a factory test car before its one-off Le Mans race entry. It was backed by Kokusai Kaihatsu UK and run by Lanzante Motorsport, which is why race records may show the entry as “Lanzante Motorsport / Kokusai Kaihatsu UK.” The driver line-up was Yannick Dalmas, JJ Lehto and Masanori Sekiya.

The McLaren completed 298 laps and won by one lap over the Courage C34 prototype. Its victory was unexpected: purpose-built prototypes were generally considered the favourites, but reliability, changing weather and the McLaren’s endurance pace reshaped the contest.

The result was also the McLaren F1 GTR’s defining achievement. Five McLarens finished in the top 13, including third, fourth and fifth. Mach One Racing and Gulf Racing also entered McLaren F1 GTRs that year, but neither fielded the overall winner; Kremer Racing entered a Porsche prototype instead.
