Hull City defeated Manchester United in the first Saturday match of the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The match was scheduled as the season’s first Saturday lunchtime fixture, played at Hull’s MKM Stadium on 22 August 2026. Hull returned to the Premier League after a nine-year absence, while Manchester United began another top-flight campaign away from home.
Hull won 2–0, producing one of the weekend’s most notable results. Goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy secured the newly promoted side’s victory and gave them a perfect start on their return.
This fixture is distinct from Manchester City’s Sunday meeting with Bournemouth. Manchester United and Manchester City were therefore involved in different opening-weekend matches, with only Hull City winning that Saturday lunchtime contest.
