Which manager began Manchester City’s 2026–27 Premier League campaign in charge?

The story behind the answer

Enzo Maresca began Manchester City’s 2026–27 Premier League campaign as manager.

Maresca took charge of City after Pep Guardiola’s resignation and led the team into its opening-round match against AFC Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium. City won 2–1 after coming from behind.

The match was Maresca’s first Premier League game in charge of Manchester City. Bournemouth scored first through Marcus Tavernier, but Marc Guéhi equalised before Joško Gvardiol scored the stoppage-time winner. Rayan Cherki assisted both City goals after coming off the bench.

Maresca’s appointment was one of the season’s major managerial changes. It is important not to confuse him with Marco Rose, who was making his Bournemouth debut in the same match, or with Andoni Iraola, who had previously managed Bournemouth before moving to Liverpool.
