TSMC manufactures chips designed by Nvidia, Apple, and many other technology firms.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company was founded in 1987 by Morris Chang in Hsinchu, Taiwan. It pioneered the dedicated foundry model, manufacturing integrated circuits for customers that design chips but do not operate their own leading-edge fabrication plants.
This separation lets companies such as Apple and Nvidia concentrate on chip architecture, software, and product design while TSMC handles wafer fabrication. TSMC manufactures processors and other semiconductors for smartphones, computers, data centers, automobiles, and artificial-intelligence systems.
The company is commonly identified by the abbreviation TSMC, although its full English name is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited. It is not the same as a chip designer such as Nvidia or AMD. TSMC's strategic importance and large manufacturing scale have made it one of the world's most valuable listed companies, while its facilities remain concentrated mainly in Taiwan with additional international expansion.
