Which tabletop role-playing game directly inspired Cyberpunk 2077’s setting?

The story behind the answer

Cyberpunk 2020 directly inspired Cyberpunk 2077’s setting.

Cyberpunk 2020 is a tabletop role-playing game created by Mike Pondsmith and published by R. Talsorian Games. It is the second edition of the Cyberpunk role-playing game line and presents a dystopian future shaped by corporations, advanced technology, cybernetic body modification, and social inequality.

Cyberpunk 2077 continues the setting’s fictional history and includes familiar concepts such as Night City, cyberware, netrunning, rockerboys, megacorporations, and the Arasaka–Militech rivalry. The video game is not a literal adaptation of one tabletop adventure; it tells a new story using the setting and its established world-building.

Cyberpunk RED is a later tabletop edition set after the Fourth Corporate War and before the period depicted in Cyberpunk 2077. That makes it related but not the direct source named by the game’s original setting material. Mike Pondsmith also served as a creative consultant on the video game.
