Which swift migrates from Europe to Africa and spends most of its life flying?

The story behind the answer

The common swift migrates from Europe to Africa and spends most of its life flying.

Common swifts breed across Europe and much of Asia before migrating to sub-Saharan Africa. They catch insects in the air, drink while flying, and can sleep during flight, allowing them to remain airborne for exceptionally long periods.

Young common swifts may spend their first two or three years almost continuously in the air before returning to land to breed. They use cliffs, buildings, and other structures for nesting, often entering small gaps beneath roofs.

The common swift is sometimes confused with swallows because both are fast-flying insect eaters. They are unrelated groups, however. Swifts have very long, narrow wings and spend far less time perched than swallows do.
