Which surname does Assassin’s Creed III’s protagonist Connor share with his father?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed III’s protagonist Connor shares the surname Kenway with his father.

Connor’s birth name is Ratonhnhaké:ton, and he is the son of Haytham Kenway, a major character who serves the Templar Order. Connor adopts the name Connor Kenway while growing up among the Kanien’kehá:ka and later joining the Assassin cause.

Assassin’s Creed III was released in 2012 and is set mainly during the American Revolution. Connor becomes involved with historical events and figures including George Washington, Samuel Adams, and Charles Lee. His personal story crosses the interests of both the Assassins and the Templars.

The surname can cause confusion because Kenway is also associated with Edward Kenway, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Edward is Haytham’s father and Connor’s grandfather, making Connor part of a multi-generational Kenway family. Connor’s Indigenous name and adopted English name refer to the same protagonist, not two separate characters.
