Which strait separates Tierra del Fuego from Argentina’s Isla de los Estados?

The story behind the answer

Le Maire Strait separates Tierra del Fuego from Argentina’s Isla de los Estados.

The strait is about 14 kilometres wide at its narrowest point and lies off the southeastern tip of Tierra del Fuego. It connects the Atlantic Ocean with waters leading toward the southern channels of the archipelago.

Dutch navigators Willem Schouten and Jacob Le Maire discovered the passage in 1616 while searching for an alternative route around Tierra del Fuego. Le Maire Strait was named after Jacob Le Maire.

It is often confused with the Strait of Magellan, which lies farther west between mainland South America and Tierra del Fuego. The Beagle Channel is another nearby passage, running through the southern part of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago.
