Which strait separates the Indonesian islands of Bali and Lombok?

The story behind the answer

Lombok Strait separates the Indonesian islands of Bali and Lombok. It connects the Bali Sea in the north with the Indian Ocean in the south.

The strait is part of Indonesia’s important east-west maritime route. Ships sometimes use it instead of the nearby Bali Strait because Lombok Strait is deeper and can accommodate large vessels, including ships that cannot safely pass through shallower passages.

The Wallace Line runs through the region between Bali and Lombok. This biogeographic boundary marks a major change in animal life: Asian species are common west of the line, while many Australian-influenced species occur farther east.

Lombok Strait is often confused with Sunda Strait, which separates Java and Sumatra. Both are Indonesian straits, but they lie in different parts of the archipelago and separate different islands.
