Which stock exchange is the principal securities market of New Zealand?
Answer
New Zealand Exchange
Answer
New Zealand Exchange
The New Zealand Exchange, commonly called NZX, is New Zealand’s principal securities market.
NZX operates the country’s main markets for listed shares, debt securities, funds, and derivatives. Its principal equity benchmark is the S&P/NZX 50 Index, which tracks major companies listed on the exchange.
The modern NZX developed from earlier regional stock exchanges and the New Zealand Stock Exchange. In 2002, the exchange demutualized and changed its name to New Zealand Exchange Limited. NZX Limited later became the listed parent company of the market operator.
The exchange is based in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. It is sometimes incorrectly called the Wellington Stock Exchange, but Wellington was only one historic regional market among several that preceded the national exchange.
