Which Star Trek film features the character of Captain Sulu commanding the USS Excelsior?

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country features Captain Sulu commanding the USS Excelsior.

Hikaru Sulu, played by George Takei, has become captain of the USS Excelsior by the time of the film. The Excelsior is sent to investigate the explosion of Praxis and later assists the Enterprise during the crisis surrounding the Klingon peace negotiations.

Sulu’s promotion had been foreshadowed in earlier films. In Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, he is still serving aboard the Enterprise, while The Undiscovered Country shows him in command of another major Starfleet vessel. His role allows the film to reunite the original crew while also showing the characters’ advancing careers.

Sulu does not command the Excelsior in Star Trek III, even though that film introduces the ship and its original captain, Stiles. The Excelsior also appears in Star Trek: Generations, but Sulu’s film command is most prominently established in The Undiscovered Country.
