Which Spanish stock exchange was founded in Madrid in 1831?
Answer
Madrid Stock Exchange
Answer
Madrid Stock Exchange
The Madrid Stock Exchange is the Spanish stock exchange founded in Madrid in 1831.
It is Spain’s largest and most internationally prominent securities market, and it forms part of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, the group that operates Spain’s regulated markets. The exchange’s official Spanish name is Bolsa de Madrid.
The Madrid market developed during the nineteenth century as Spain’s capital became the country’s central financial and administrative hub. Its historic exchange building, the Palacio de la Bolsa, opened in 1893 and remains one of Madrid’s notable landmarks.
Today, trading in Spanish equities is closely connected with the broader Spanish market infrastructure and the IBEX 35, Spain’s best-known share index. The Madrid Stock Exchange should not be confused with the regional exchanges in Barcelona, Bilbao, and Valencia, which are also part of Spain’s exchange network.
