Which South African birdied the final four holes to win the 2011 Masters?
Answer
Charl Schwartzel
Answer
Charl Schwartzel
Charl Schwartzel was the South African who birdied the final four holes to win the 2011 Masters.
Schwartzel closed with a 6-under 66 at Augusta National, finishing at 14 under par and winning by two strokes over Jason Day and Adam Scott. His birdies on holes 15 through 18 produced one of the most dramatic finishes in Masters history.
The closing run was part of an extraordinary final round. Schwartzel also chipped in for birdie at the first hole and holed out for eagle at the third, then added the decisive four-birdie finish. He became the third South African Masters champion, following Gary Player and Trevor Immelman.
The victory was Schwartzel's first major championship. Louis Oosthuizen, another South African, was runner-up in the 2012 Masters, which may cause confusion, while Immelman won the 2008 tournament.
