Answer
Prothonotary warbler
Answer
Prothonotary warbler
The prothonotary warbler migrates between North America and Central America and is known for nesting in tree cavities.
Prothonotary warblers breed mainly in swampy forests of the southeastern United States and parts of southern Ontario. They migrate south to Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America, depending on the population.
Unlike most wood-warblers, which place open cup nests in vegetation, this species commonly uses natural cavities or abandoned holes. It may also occupy nest boxes, especially near wetlands and slow-moving water.
The bird’s bright yellow body gives it a distinctive appearance, but it is not the same species as the yellow warbler. The name “prothonotary” refers historically to a papal clerical title and reflects the bird’s yellow robes-like plumage.
