Which song won Eurovision 1997 for the United Kingdom?

The story behind the answer

“Love Shine a Light” won Eurovision 1997 for the United Kingdom. Katrina and the Waves performed the song in Dublin, Ireland, and received 227 points, giving the UK its fifth and most recent Eurovision victory.

The entry was written by Kimberley Rew, who had also written the band’s international hit “Walking on Sunshine.” Katrina Leskanich led the Eurovision performance, backed by the Waves. The song won by a substantial margin, finishing ahead of Ireland and Turkey in the final ranking.

The 1997 contest was the last Eurovision final in which the United Kingdom won. It is also remembered for a broad voting result: the UK received points from every other participating country. The title is sometimes mixed up with the United Kingdom’s earlier winners, including “Making Your Mind Up” from 1981 and “Save Your Kisses for Me” from 1976.
