“Evermore” was written specifically for Disney's 2017 Beauty and the Beast as a solo for the Beast.
The song was composed by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Tim Rice. It expresses the Beast's sorrow after Belle leaves the castle and his realization that he may have lost her. In the film, Dan Stevens performs the song as the Beast.
“Evermore” was one of several new songs added to the live-action adaptation. The film also introduced “How Does a Moment Last Forever,” performed in different forms by Belle and Maurice, and “Days in the Sun,” sung by the enchanted castle servants.
The song is sometimes confused with “If I Can't Love Her,” another Beast solo written for the stage musical adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. “Evermore” belongs specifically to the 2017 film and was not part of the original 1991 animated soundtrack.
