“Happy” from Despicable Me 2 received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Pharrell Williams wrote and performed the song for the film’s soundtrack.
The song became one of the most recognizable musical elements associated with the franchise. Its upbeat sound appears during the end credits and helped connect the animated film with a major international pop hit.
At the 86th Academy Awards, “Happy” was nominated alongside songs from other films. It did not win; “Let It Go” from Frozen took the award that year.
The title is sometimes confused with other cheerful songs or unofficial Minions-themed tracks. The nominated title is simply “Happy,” without an added character or film subtitle.
