Which song closed episodes of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood during its first three seasons?

The story behind the answer

“Tomorrow” closed episodes of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood during the show’s first three seasons.

The song came from Fred Rogers’s earlier work with Josie Carey, his colleague on The Children’s Corner. During the first three seasons of the national series, each episode ended with “Tomorrow,” making it the original closing song associated with the program’s early years.

A common mix-up is “It’s Such a Good Feeling,” which became the familiar closing theme later in the run. Another is “The Weekend Song,” introduced for Friday episodes beginning in the fourth season, when “Tomorrow” continued on Monday through Thursday. “Tomorrow” was eventually removed because of copyright issues.

The show’s musical identity changed gradually rather than all at once. Fred Rogers wrote and sang many of the program’s songs, while jazz pianist Johnny Costa arranged and performed much of the instrumental music. Thus, “Tomorrow” belongs specifically to the early closing format, not to the entire 1968–2001 run.
