Which snowboarder won men’s giant slalom gold at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics?
Answer
Ross Rebagliati
Answer
Ross Rebagliati
Ross Rebagliati won men’s giant slalom gold at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.
The Canadian became the first Olympic snowboarding champion in the men’s giant slalom, one of two snowboarding events on the Nagano program. France’s Nicolas Huet won silver and Italy’s Thomas Prugger won bronze.
Rebagliati briefly lost the medal after testing positive for marijuana metabolites, but the International Olympic Committee returned the gold after a legal challenge. Marijuana was not listed as a prohibited substance under the relevant rules for that event.
Snowboarding’s Olympic debut at Nagano included giant slalom and halfpipe. Giant slalom was later replaced by parallel giant slalom, while snowboard cross and slopestyle were added at later Games.
