McDonald’s launched the slogan “I’m Lovin’ It” globally in 2003 as its best-known modern brand message.
The campaign marked a shift toward a shorter, more conversational style of advertising. Its English wording was retained in many markets, while local executions adapted the surrounding commercials, music, and translations.
The campaign is especially associated with a five-note musical signature and the phrase “ba da ba ba ba.” German advertising agency Heye & Partner developed the campaign concept, and the slogan quickly became central to McDonald’s packaging, advertising, and restaurant communications.
A common mix-up is confusing the launch date with later campaign refreshes. McDonald’s had used earlier slogans, including “You Deserve a Break Today,” but “I’m Lovin’ It” replaced them as the company’s principal global tagline in the 2000s.
