Which skier won the men’s Olympic super-G gold medal at Lillehammer in 1994?
Answer
Markus Wasmeier
Answer
Markus Wasmeier
Markus Wasmeier won the men’s Olympic super-G gold medal at Lillehammer in 1994.
The German skier won the race at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway, finishing ahead of Norway’s Kjetil André Aamodt and Italy’s Jan Piero Gianesi. Super-G combines the speed of downhill with more frequent turns and a single timed run.
Wasmeier had a highly successful Lillehammer Games, also winning gold in the giant slalom. Those victories made him one of the standout alpine competitors of the event.
He is sometimes confused with Hermann Maier, another celebrated Austrian super-G champion. Maier became one of the discipline’s defining figures later in the 1990s, but Wasmeier was the Olympic champion in Lillehammer’s inaugural Olympic super-G competition.
