Which skier became the youngest Olympic alpine skiing champion by winning slalom gold at Sochi 2014?

The story behind the answer

Mikaela Shiffrin became the youngest Olympic alpine skiing champion by winning slalom gold at Sochi 2014.

Shiffrin was 18 years and 345 days old when she won the women’s slalom at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. That victory made her the youngest Olympic alpine skiing champion, and she was also the youngest woman to win an Olympic alpine skiing title.

She led after the first run and preserved her advantage in the second, finishing ahead of Austria’s Marlies Schild and Sweden’s Frida Hansdotter. Shiffrin later added giant slalom gold at Pyeongchang 2018. Her Sochi achievement is distinct from her record as the youngest world champion in slalom, which she set at the 2013 World Championships.
