Which skier became the first woman to win 82 Alpine Skiing World Cup races?
Answer
Lindsey Vonn
Answer
Lindsey Vonn
Lindsey Vonn became the first woman to win 82 Alpine Skiing World Cup races.
Vonn reached 82 victories on 19 January 2018 by winning the downhill at Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy. The result moved her past fellow American Ingemar Stenmark’s long-standing women’s-and-men’s combined record for World Cup wins by a woman.
Her victories were concentrated in the speed events, especially downhill and super-G, although she also won in giant slalom. Vonn won four overall World Cup titles and an Olympic downhill gold medal at Vancouver in 2010.
The 82-win mark was later surpassed by Mikaela Shiffrin, so it is best described as a historical milestone rather than the current record. Vonn’s achievement remains significant because it made her the first woman to reach that total in World Cup alpine skiing.
