Which ski jumper won the Four Hills Tournament five times overall?
Answer
Janne Ahonen
Answer
Janne Ahonen
Janne Ahonen won the Four Hills Tournament five times overall.
Ahonen, representing Finland, won the prestigious Four Hills Tournament in 1998–99, 2002–03, 2004–05, 2005–06 and 2007–08. Those five overall victories remain the competition record.
The tournament is held across four German and Austrian venues: Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. Results from all four events are combined to determine the overall winner, so the title rewards consistency as well as individual jump victories.
The Four Hills Tournament is separate from the Olympic ski-jumping competition and the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. Ahonen was also a major World Cup athlete and won world championship titles. Norway’s Bjørn Wirkola had three tournament victories, which is why he is sometimes incorrectly given the record.
