Edgar Grospiron won the men’s moguls title at the 1992 Albertville Olympics.
The French skier took gold when moguls made their Olympic debut as a medal event. The competition was held at Tignes, one of the venues used for the Albertville Winter Games.
Moguls racers ski over a course covered with rounded bumps, known as moguls, while performing two required jumps. Judges evaluate turns, air maneuvers and speed, so the discipline combines technical control with acrobatics.
Moguls had appeared as a demonstration event at the 1988 Calgary Olympics before becoming an official medal sport in 1992. Grospiron later won Olympic bronze at Lillehammer in 1994 and became one of France’s best-known freestyle skiers.
