Which singer won Eurovision 1980 for Ireland with the song “What’s Another Year”?

The story behind the answer

Johnny Logan won Eurovision 1980 for Ireland with the song “What’s Another Year”.

The 1980 contest was held in The Hague, Netherlands, on 19 April. Logan performed “What’s Another Year”, a ballad written by Shay Healy, and finished first with 143 points. The song reflected on growing older and the passage of time.

Logan’s victory began a remarkable Eurovision association. He later won the 1987 contest as a performer with “Hold Me Now” and also wrote Linda Martin’s winning 1992 entry, “Why Me?”. This made him one of the competition’s most successful figures.

People sometimes confuse Logan’s 1980 win with his 1987 victory, since both were for Ireland. The two wins were separate performances seven years apart, while his songwriting success came later.
