Aloe Blacc recorded “The Man,” which topped the UK Singles Chart in April 2014. The song became his first solo UK number-one single and was released as part of his album Lift Your Spirit.
“The Man” is built around a confident, self-affirming lyric and a prominent sample or interpolation connected with Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “Your Song.” Its polished soul-pop sound helped it reach a broad audience, while Blacc’s warm, expressive vocal gave the track its distinctive character.
A common mix-up is confusing the song with “Wake Me Up,” the 2013 global hit Blacc co-wrote and performed with Swedish producer Avicii. “Wake Me Up” made Blacc internationally famous, but “The Man” was his own credited solo single. It reached number one on the UK chart dated April 12, 2014, and remained one of his signature recordings.
