Billie Eilish won the 2020 Grammy for Album of the Year for her debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Released in 2019, the album established her as one of the defining new voices in contemporary pop.
Eilish created much of the album with her brother, Finneas O’Connell, who produced it in his small bedroom studio in Los Angeles. Its dark, minimalist electropop sound contrasted with the polished production often associated with mainstream pop. Songs such as “Bad Guy,” “Bury a Friend” and “When the Party’s Over” helped make the album a major international success.
At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, held on January 26, 2020, the album won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. “Bad Guy” also won Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while Eilish won Best New Artist.
A notable detail is that Eilish was only 18 when she won. She became the first woman—and only the second artist after Christopher Cross—to win all four major Grammy categories in one ceremony.
