Which singer plays Deena Jones in the 2006 film Dreamgirls?

Beyoncé plays Deena Jones in the 2006 film Dreamgirls.

Dreamgirls is a musical drama directed by Bill Condon and adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name. Its story follows a fictional female singing group whose career is shaped by ambition, changing musical fashions, and the pressures of the entertainment business.

Beyoncé’s Deena Jones is inspired partly by the public image and career trajectory associated with Diana Ross, although the character is not a direct biographical portrayal. Jennifer Hudson plays Effie White, the group’s original lead singer, while Anika Noni Rose plays Lorrell Robinson.

The film also features Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. Hudson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, making Dreamgirls a major milestone in her acting career. Beyoncé’s role is sometimes mistaken for Effie because “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” is the film’s most famous solo showcase.
