Kiki Dee joined Elton John on the 1976 UK chart-topping duet “Don't Go Breaking My Heart.”
Released on 25 June 1976, the song was credited to Elton John and Kiki Dee. It topped the UK Singles Chart for six weeks and became the first UK number-one single for both performers.
The track was written under pseudonyms by John and his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin: “Ann Orson” represented John, while “Carte Blanche” represented Taupin. The song was designed as a playful homage to the Motown duet style.
Kiki Dee was already an established British singer before the collaboration, known for songs including “Amoureuse” and “I've Got the Music in Me.” The duet became her best-known recording and also reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.
